FAMILY PATTERNS

painting installation

Family Patterns is a series of drawings and paintings on wall paper and wall canvas. Some patterns which I found are common in the French area, some others were used in German households, mainly in the 60 ties to the 80 ties. These wall papers reminded me of a domestic environment which might not at all be flowery and peaceful. These idyllic scenes and  representation of dreams about prosperity and purity are contradicted by the paint of melancholic and dramatic portraits and gestures. There might be also only lying some boredom in a glance, towards family routines and legacy. Family tragedies are happening behind the curtains of silence. The series of Family Patterns should not be shown on the wall, but in wooden doll houses, with different windows and entries, to put in the spotlight the shadows of textile testimonies.
